RIUJ Workers' National Press Club Demonstrates Big Demonstrations "Journalists are the protectors of geographical borders on International Day

Islam Abad (94 news) Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (Workers) On the occasion of World Journalism Day, a peaceful but vigorous protest was organized in front of the National Press Club Islamabad, in which a large number of journalists, apart from lawyers, civil society and minority community representatives participated.

The protest was led by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Workers) Dr. Sadia Kamal, the president, while Jawaria Arshad Sharif, widow of Shaheed Arshad Sharif, participated as a special guest.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Sadia Kamal said that there are serious threats to freedom of expression in Pakistan, but journalists are performing their professional responsibilities well despite all the difficulties. He said that "Journalists are the guardians of the geographical borders of the beloved country. The stability of Pakistan is possible only when the freedom of the press is fully protected."

Senior journalists Mohsin Raza, Asad Toor, Ishaq Chaudhry, Javed Malik, Hafiz Tahir, and Jawaria Arshad also addressed the demonstration. RIUJ President Mazhar Iqbal and General Secretary Hameedullah Abid expressed serious concern over the current situation of press freedom and demanded the government to address the threats faced by journalists and free the media from pressure.

Barrister Aqil represented the lawyers community in the protest, while the representatives of the minority community also participated in the demonstration. Safdar Chaudhry, Adnan Shamsi, and Waqar Haider Chauhan also addressed the protest.

The participants unanimously expressed their determination that they will continue their struggle for the freedom of journalism, the protection of journalists, and the stability of democracy. At the end of the demonstration, senior journalist Hafiz Tahir offered collective prayers for all the martyred journalists, including the martyred journalist Arshad Sharif.
