A seminar was held at GC University on the topic of "Empowering Women through Land and Property Rights, Advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan".

Faisalabad (94 news) Dr. Mazhar Abbas, Principal Investigator of the HEC funded research project “Women's Land and Property Rights, Laws, Policies and Practices in Pakistan” organized a national seminar on “Empowering Women through Land and Property Rights, Advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan” at the Department of History, Government College University, Faisalabad. Dr. Asia Saif Alvi (Chairperson, Department of Political Science, University of Sargodha) Determining the interrelationship between women's rights to land and property, their economic independence and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, adopted the position that without ensuring women's rights to land and property, their economic independence is not possible and without ensuring their economic independence, the fifth goal of the United Nations' Sustainable Development (Women empowerment and gender equality) Achieving it will be just a dream. He further said that mere giving of land and property to women will not empower them, but for this, finance, credits and skill development programs are very important elements. Dr. Muhammad Abrar Zahoor (Chairman, Department of History and Pakistan Studies, University of Sargodha) emphasized that depriving women of their rights to land and property in our society and creating barriers to their development and independence is certainly a sign of their denial or elimination. Dr. Mazhar Abbas, principal investigator of the project, said that unfortunately, in Pakistan, land is a symbol of power and dignity. Due to which men refuse to give share of land and property to women. In other words, until men get rid of their ego and are mentally ready to give women a share of land and property, women's development, prosperity and independence will not be possible. (That is the fifth sustainable development goal) It is not possible to achieve.
