In a first-of-its-kind government initiative in Pakistan, the Punjab government has launched the provision of advanced bionic prosthetic limbs to the disabled.
Lahore( 94 news) On the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab “Disability free Punjab” Under the programme, supply of advanced myoelectric bionic prostheses to persons with disabilities has been initiated. The project has been launched under the aegis of Social Welfare, a first of its kind government initiative in Pakistan. Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Baitul-Mal Sohail Shaukat Butt participated in the distribution ceremony of bionic artificial organs as a special guest. Secretary Social Welfare Javed Akhtar Mahmood, DG Social Welfare Tariq Qureshi and Director Muzmal Yar other officers of the department were also present in the ceremony.
During the event, practical installation of advanced bionic artificial limbs was demonstrated in the presence of media. These prostheses are capable of moving through electrical signals generated by muscles and are based on artificial intelligence. The progress of persons with disabilities will be continuously monitored through the mobile app linked to these organs.
In the first stage 173 Individuals with disabilities have been selected, out of which: 32 People are being provided with artificial limbs immediately. Persons with disabilities from various districts of Punjab including Kasur, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Toba Tek Singh participated in the event, where they were provided artificial arms, legs and other assistive devices.
Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt said that today is the day for the fulfillment of the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz. Social welfare department has been given new life by the vision of Chief Minister Punjab. The targets of providing assistive devices, courage cards and artificial limbs have been met ahead of schedule. This project is a major milestone towards leading persons with disabilities to live a dignified, independent and active life.
