Lahore (94 news) On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, progress has been made regarding prison reforms. It has been decided in principle to keep the convicted prisoners in their respective district jails.

According to the details, Punjab Home Department has made a policy to keep the convicted prisoners in the jail of their respective district. The Home Department has formed a high-powered committee to decide the procedure for sending the prisoners to their district jail, which will make its recommendations and action plan within a week. Deputy Secretary in the Committee (Prison) Home Department, DIG Prison Sargodha Region, DIG Prison DG Khan Region, AIG Judicial Inspectorate of Prison Punjab, Superintendent Central Jail Faisalabad and Section Officer Home Department are included.

Spokesperson of Punjab Interior Department said that in the past 5 Prisoners sentenced to more than a year were kept in central jails instead of their districts. The parents and families of the prisoners who were imprisoned away from home were facing serious financial and other difficulties to meet the prisoner and the interior department was receiving complaints in this regard, in view of which Punjab Interior Secretary Noor Ul Amin Mengal decided to change the policy and formed a committee.
