Women with disabilities should be recruited on priority basis, inclusion in local government should also be ensured

Faisalabad (94 News Bureau Report) By strengthening the implementation system on the 3% quota reserved for persons with disabilities, women with disabilities should be recruited on priority basis for the posts related to complaints cell, front desk officer, and information desk. Inclusion of persons with disabilities in the local government should be ensured. The system of registration of persons with disabilities should be facilitated through one-window operation. The system of coordination between government departments and offices related to persons with disabilities should be strengthened. Public buildings, public parks and shopping plazas should be made accessible to persons with disabilities. These demands were made by organizations working for the rights of persons with disabilities, including Awam Pakistan, DRAG, CBID Network and Chanon Network, during a media conference on the completion of 13 years of ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Shazia George, Sonia Patras, Alhaj Chaudhry Latif Gul.(Convener drag)Mian Iftikhar Ahmed(General Secretary Drag), and Muhammad Yunus(Individuals are mutually disabled)while talking to journalists. Shazia George said that although the government has allocated quota for persons with disabilities, and many other facilities have been announced, but access to quota and facilities is like gambling. Especially for women with disabilities. Speaking further, he said that women with disabilities are ignored in various government schemes and committees, as a result, the development graph of women with disabilities is very low. Sonia Patras said that no clear policy has yet been given by the government regarding people with disabilities. Various committees have been issued by the government, but no funds have been allocated for the work of the committees. Alhaji Chaudhry Latif Gul said that in previous five years we have assisted 8219 persons with disabilities to get disability certificate but still unable to understand where persons with disabilities should go with this certificate and identity card with disability monogram. He further said that our office system and social attitudes are forcing people to beg each other's disabilities. It is necessary that the quota of jobs allocated for them should be strictly implemented and all such posts which are related to sitting work should be reserved for persons with disabilities. Mian Iftikhar Ahmed said that there are many types of ambiguity related to disability among individuals. Government agencies could not digitize their data due to which the actual number of persons with disabilities could not be revealed. Muhammad Yunus, representative of people with disabilities, said that people with disabilities should not be limited to charity work, but should be included in development work. Further speaking, he said that initiatives like launching easy loan schemes for people with disabilities can ensure a dignified life by empowering people with disabilities.
