PTA termed the warning message circulating on social media as fake and misleading

According to the details, the viral message on social media attributed to PTA was claiming that your mobile accounts and personal information can be stolen within a few seconds by receiving a call from the said number. The viral message asked citizens to pass on the warning to their family and friends to avoid alleged cyber fraud.

However, the PTA clarified that no such warning was issued by it and the message circulating on social media had nothing to do with the authority. According to the telecom regulator, the fake notification related to the said phone number has been circulating on social media for several days. PTA directed the public not to trust or share unverified information received on social media. The PTA urged citizens to refer to the authority's official social media accounts for authentic information and latest announcements.

The PTA's clarification comes at a time when there is growing public concern over cyber fraud and fake online alerts in the country.
