The growing gap between the police and the people, first greetings and then the words, where is it lost?

In any civilized society, the police is not just a law enforcement agency, but the face of the state through which citizens gauge the justice system of their country. Citizens feel safe when the behavior of the police is polite, law-abiding and people-friendly, but when the same institution becomes a symbol of fear, disrespect and excessive use of force, cracks begin to appear in the wall of trust between the state and the people.
For the past few years, bitter incidents between the traffic police and citizens have been continuously coming to light. Repetition on trivial matters, harsh tone from citizens, complaints of unnecessary challans and daily disputes raise a serious question that where is the problem? Are citizens really constantly violating traffic rules or are there loopholes in the system somewhere that have widened the gap between the public and the law enforcement agencies?
Adherence to traffic rules is imperative. There should be no compromise on helmets, seat belts, licences, lane discipline and other rules. Law is equal for all. But the way the law is enforced is as important as the law itself. The law cannot be obeyed by undermining self-respect. Soft tone, appropriate behavior, clear guidance and transparent action are the elements that teach citizens to respect the law.
The true beauty of state power lies in its justice, not its coercion. If citizens begin to feel that their dignity is not protected, that they are not being heard and that they are not getting justice, then this sense of deprivation can gradually turn into social unrest. This should be a moment of reflection for any responsible government and institution.
Now is the time to rebuild the broken bond of trust between the police and the public. The job of the police is to protect citizens, protect their lives and property and ensure fair enforcement of the law, not to intimidate or humiliate the public. A dignified citizen is the foundation of a strong state, and a people-friendly police is the real dignity of that state.
