Malam Jabba Resort project declared megafraud, case sent to NAB headquarters

Peshawar(94news) NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sent the case to NAB headquarters declaring the seizure of forest department's land for Malam Jabba Resort project as a mega fraud case and approval will be given to arrest or file a reference in the executive board meeting presided over by Chairman NAB Justice Retired Javed Iqbal.

According to the details, 'Sam Sons' group of companies was not entitled to get the contract, but it was awarded the contract in violation of the rules and regulations, for which the date of submission of tenders was also extended.

According to the report of the investigating officers, the Malam Jabba scandal came to light in early 2018. The Chairman NAB ordered an inquiry for a clear example of corruption and abuse of power.

Former Chief Minister Pervez Khattak decided to award the contract to the Australian Government or PAF for this project but the tourism department did not enter into any such agreement. During the investigation it was revealed that no feasibility, technical or financial criteria were set for the project, the tourism department called for tenders from experienced companies while the said company had no experience in running hotels or chairlifts, so this company did not meet the required conditions, yet the sub-committee gave it 60.5 marks on the basis of technical criteria, while no explanation was provided during the investigation. .

According to the report, the date of submission of tenders was till 31 March 2014 but it was extended till 10 April and a notification was issued in this regard on 14 April. Samsons Group of Companies submitted the tender after March 31 and the extension of the tender period was also announced only on the website, which itself is a violation of Section 27 of the Paper Rules. The company offered Rs 60 lakh for the Malam Jabba Hotel at Rs 12 lakh per acre, but later the company offered separate bids of Rs 60, 60 lakh for the two hotels and the chairlift, which was in violation of the rules.
