Libyan PM announces resignation

Tripoli (94 news) Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Siraj has announced his resignation.

Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Siraj said in a statement on state television that he will step down by the end of next month.

He welcomed consultations and meetings between the parties to the crisis under the auspices of the United Nations, aimed at unifying institutions ahead of parliamentary and presidential elections.

Siraj called on the negotiating committee to speed up the formation of the new authority, to ensure a peaceful and smooth transition of power and bring the country out of crisis.

Faiz Siraj added that he would remain in power until handing over power to the new prime minister.

He hoped that the negotiating committee would complete its mission before the end of October.
