France refused to give the source code of Rafale to India
Paris (94 news) France has denied India access to the basic software source codes of the Rafale fighter jet, in a major blow to New Delhi's air sovereignty strategy.
French business magazine L'Essentiel de l'Éco reports that the denial is specifically related to the sensitive systems of the Rafale aircraft, including the Thales RBE2 AESA radar, Modular Data Processing Unit. (MDPU) and includes the SPECTRA electronic warfare suite. Together, these three systems form the infrastructure for the aircraft's sensor fusion, survivability and electronic warfare capabilities.
The report states that French authorities consider these software systems to be highly sensitive and the result of many years of research, so they want to maintain full control over them. Due to this decision, India will be unable to carry out any autonomous technical changes or upgrades to the Rafale jets.

According to sources, the lack of access to the source codes also means that India will not be able to integrate its indigenous weapons into the Rafale with full autonomy. Analysts say the development could affect India's long-standing bid to make its air force fully autonomous and reliant on indigenous technology. On the other hand, France's position shows that it is not ready to make any concessions to maintain full control over its sensitive defense technology.
